Near the start of the movie, a young child is snatched by a quickly moving alien, as the father rushes to save him to no avail. The mother is shown as already knowing he won't make it in time. This frightening scene is dwelt upon during the rest of the movie, including further discussion, visiting the site, photos of the child, grief, blame, etc.
Treasure hunting + adventure + comedy + romance seems like a formula for cinematic success, and, indeed, Paramount Pictures has struck gold here.
