Merc priority and build priority are not the same thing. Merc priority can easily flip on a dime as the meta changes and flip back. but it takes most players awhile to fully build a hero (309.60) and much much much longer to build an awakened if your focus is on CR, abaden is probably the most impactful awakened hero you can currently own.

Thane is like the best pvp hero and really amazing in pve. Talene and brutus are used pretty much everywhere. And ezizh is probably the worst one but still has some niche uses. Thane is undoubtedly the weakest awakened hero for campaign, he is not useful at 220+ level deficits.
