This season is really odd. The animation style changed, for one. More jarring I think is that it is a series of bottle episodes, most of which only have two or three of the main cast in them. Season four ended with a four-episode ark tying all the plot points together, and then they tack on this extra season of inconsequential episodes.

My consideration at this point is to start reading Uncanny X-Men first. I was thinking about starting at #94 - as I understand it, this is a potential starting point, where the comic also isn't all that silly anymore. The Xmen core locations have 3 of the same effects as the OG core locations. 1 effect is similar and a little better in the Xmen box. The other 4 blow the OG box out of the water. I will want to house rule something where we keep the locations mostly to the choosen villian. Otherwise we will never use the OG location. Besides mutants have always existed in the Marvel world 🌎 look at Apocalypse, Logan, Sinister and Mystique as examples. Lastly, this isn't just one character or small group of characters. The X-men constitutes about a third of the Marvel Universe. They need un-convoluted narrative real estate to effectively grow.

There are more good films in the franchise than bad. Logan, DOFP, First Class and X2 are some of the best in the Genre. The Deadpool movies were great. X1 and The wolverine are pretty good. Apocalypse and The Last Stand are bad/mediocre but have some great scenes in them. Honestly, X-men origins is the only truly terrible one.Like you said, it just doesn't work. I hate that IvX happened. And now that Marvel/Disney finally got the right to X-Men and mutants, Inhumans got the same treatment with Death of the Inhumans.
