So you need to actually barricade those with planks. No furniture except a bookshelf can barricade the windows. Pretty much any furniture can barricade a door/hallway.

You can take windows from houses using a crowbar and put them in that space, you can then board them up. However, make sure you put the barricades on the outside of the windows so zombies don't break the glass before the barricades. #10.
