31 mpg in a 1979 300SD! I don't know if this is typical of these cars, but ive been getting between 27 and 31 mpg in my well-worn 300sd. The last fuel-up yielded 31.77 mpg. It has seemed to go up with the ambient temperature. I also add about a half quart of ATF to every approx. 16 gallons.

My experience was 22-24 mpg on diesel and WVO with no discernible difference in power between the two. Gearing, weight of the vehicle, tires size, mod's etc. are all going to play into the equation.
