Wanted to share my project of the past few weeks. My JD came with an "Original Tractor Cab" brand soft cab which I used one winter and found quite mediocre so I never reinstalled. 2 years later I got around to designing and building my own. Reused to plastic top ans wiper motors only. Front and rear glass are safety glassFeb 23, 2014. #1. Dad and a friend made one for the 51 A Deere back somewhere n the middle fifties. Our one neighbor joked that it was a tractor with a house on it. Back in those days a REAL man wouldn't be caught in a sissy thing like a cab. Dad just smiled with his ear floppers up and gloves off. Wayne Harmsen couldn't justify the cost of a commercial cab for his Simplicity 25 hp tractor. So he built his own out of PVC pipe. The cab is made from 1 1/4-in. dia. PVC pipe which supports heavy duty clear vinyl. There's a single door on the driver's side. The unit mounts with two pins on front and a single pin on back. I am a Northern Michigan man that loves to tinker in my workshop and make unique, one-of-a-kind, custom projects. I have a cozy cab on my bolens 1250 that we have customized to fit our needs. some of our wants were: 1. windshield wiper. 2. fan to help keep windshield fog free. 3. exterior lighting front and back (really helps backing up into dark areas or garage) 4. hazard/gumball light.

The cab and cart are light enough to lift by hand in position but with 2 person needed to lock into place. The main issue I see with home-made cabs is, tractors sold without an OEM cab are probably not going to have AC or Heat.
