Been a lurker on this forum for the last year with a couple years experience as a podiatrist now. I am currently working in PP under another podiatrist owner. Although things have gone well with reasonable pay ($160-$180k), I have had the itch to start my own practice mainly due to disagreements with many of the owner's practices. Podiatry isn't brain surgery and we can all do HTs, bunions, limb salvage. Sure we don't all do RF/trauma stuff, but most orthos don't do rotationplasties and many don't even do like, knee replacements. Some plastic surgeons only do breast augs. There are more surgical cases going off from podiatry then in any other surgical specialty. More surgery = more money. Money talks and ortho's bull**** walks. Getting back to the OR experience. The VA recently changed the salaries that they pay podiatrists (same for all VA hospitals), and salaries improved dramatically (low 100k to 200k-300k range).
