Oct 29, 2020 · keep stroking. I'm working on a 2004 Cat MBN C15. The jake brake has always given the driver trouble. After closer inspection of the assemblies, I found one of them cracked. Having trouble with the Jake brake on my 5EK 1996 3406E engine. After it is activated it does not shut off with the accelerator or dash switch -just keeps going even if I accelerate. It finally will quit on it's own. Just started doing this last week. A mechanic told me it was a bad solenoid so I replaced all 3 with new CAT solenoids.

You can pull the wire off the post at the head, and put a test light on the wire and ground it to the engine. no need to drive it or even run the engine, just turn the switch on and the light should light, with the key on. you can run the engine if you like, and rev it up and let off and watch the light, if it lights on ...

Watch oil flow change from top of slave piston housing, when wire is removed or hand is taken off center of solenoid.

This is what gives them that awsome sound. You have a few exhaust brakes to choose from, but they don't sound like a jake.5. Measure the resistance across the Jake Brake solenoid.
