On my interview date Oct 29th 2020, I-751 was done first between my wife and I and then proceeded to do my N-400 interview. The interviewer told me that I passed the N-400 interview but he could not make a decision right there because he was not having my I-751 file in front him to review my documents.I want to share my N-400 & I-751 combo interview experience here at the Irving, TX USCIS office. When you file your N400 and it is time for your interview the officer and his supervisor will have to approve your I751 first in order the software to let them move on to N400. However you do it, officer will most definitely know.

For clarification, the officer who interviewed me has the I751 application and evidence in hand. I had a combo interview. He said that he was going to approve both 751 and N400 cases, but he can only approve 751 during the interview and then the N400 after 24 hours because the system won’t allow to approve both at the same time apparently.

Looking at the dates - the transfer of the i751 to the field office happened before the date of the notice that the n400 interview was scheduled. Yes, they have to have the i751 in the office to approve it. however, some people reported on this forum that they did not have the i751... but were approved anyway about 2 weeks after the n400 interview.
