Samuel Barr was born in 1798 in Randolph County. He and his wife Rachel Weaver built this log cabin in 1845, several years before Calhoun was established and in what would become Grantsville many years later. The house occupied a site to the right of the Russett Road (town limits), across the road from the former Grantsville swimming pool.

Weaver was on his way to the Kight Store at Nobe to sell butter and eggs when he encountered his long-time enemy Beaman Wright, who killed him.
