I have a real nice 15 HP Gamefisher motor, model 225.587151. I purchased a brand new starter { pulley starter} from a Mercury dealer who now carry parts for the Gamefisher. The motor will not crank from the pulley starter. Its so tight that it has broken off two ropes. up for sale is a sears 15hp gamefisher outboard motor model 225.581500 . this was taken out of service and sat for a long time. motor turns and cranks easy, has very good compression and is complete and comes exactly as pictured. only used in fresh water and selling it for parts or repair. I'm guessing that Tanaka made the entire line for Gamefisher, but my 3HP is for sure a Tanaka.

There is a nut and rod (pinion?) attached above the flywheel which the starter fits over. Same with reverse, and that's why It would either freeze in forward, or neutral and wouldn't shift out of it.
