I have the XB3 modem & router combo. For simplicity, I wanted to continue using my previous router (tp-link AC1750). To that end, I've enabled "bridge mode" on the XB3 modem/router and ran an ethernet cable from port 1 to the WAN port of the AC1750. My devices can connect to the AC1750 and connect to websites and whatnot. That part all works.
