I'm trying to figure out the age of this revolver, serial number is 1K15XXX. Oct 14, 2023 · Although 1989 is not out of the question for your 686 since S&W did not ship in serial number order, 1949 or 50 is absurd for a Model 60 and reflects extreme ignorance of the model's history. The Model 60 began production in 1965, just as Google said. The modern Smith & Wesson company no longer cares about its history. It comes from a lineage back to 1899, they begame the model 10 in 1957 and were made in various forms. The 10 dash 6 is known as the heavy barrel variety. I can say that the Smith and Wesson model 27-2 started having a N prefix to the serial number in 1969.These model 27-2 were made until 1981,when the model 27-3 began production.If your model 27-2 has the target trigger,target hammer,partridge type front sight on a 6in barrel and Goncalo Alves grips then these were started in 1975.
