It does not say anywhere on the revolver what the caliber is. There is a serial number of P54448 under the trigger guard and also on the frame under the left hand grip. The only words listed on the revolver is located on top of the barrel which says "Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works, Fitchburg Mass USA".

The M serial prefix was used only 1904-1905 on large frame black powder .38 S&W caliber hammer models, which had flat mainsprings, and M45423 was made in 1904.
