This is a walk-through for changing the final drive oil on the VTX. The process is the same for both 1300s and 1800s regardless of model. This is a simple job which only requires a few basic tools. As always undertake this project at your own risk, but with a little common sense this isn’t very hard to do. Required tools/Materials.

I use a 2x4 block to level the bike and when filling get it close and then hold upright, level, and finish filling. In God we Trust.
What Fram filter fits the VTX 1300? The local dealer is out of Honda Filters and I want to do my oil change tomorrow vs waiting a week. Local Wally World did not have the VTX 1300 on its charts. If you buy a quart and change with every oil change that's 7 - 8 changes if you don't spill any. For me as a 32 year professional mechanic I call it cheap insurance.

Just changing the oil is pretty straight forward. Pull the front wheel. Loosen the top fork plugs. Loosen the triple clamp bolts. Pull the fork legs out (one at the time). Mark them left and right. Pull the top fork plugs off. Drain the oil.
